Russia's envoy to the Untied Nations has defended Moscow's actions in Ukraine.
Churkin has also accused Western countries of encouraging acts of terror and violence in Ukraine. He made the comments in an emergency meeting of the U-N Security Council on Ukraine. Russian ambassador quoted a letter from ex-Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovich saying that people in Ukraine were being persecuted based on their language and for political reasons. Churkin said Yanukovich asked Putin to use the armed forces to establish law and order and defend the people of Ukraine. His comments brought the reaction of the U-S ambassador to the Security Council.
