Tension is still high in Ukraine. The unrest has now spread to cities across the crisis-hit country as the standoff between Russia and the West continues.
Pro-Russian protesters have stormed a regional government building in the city of Donetsk and occupied several floors there. The protesters waved the Russian flag and chanted slogans in support of Russia. Donetsk is an industrial city in eastern Ukraine close to the Russian border and a stronghold of ousted president Viktor Yanukovych. Reports also say pro-Russian demonstrators have stormed the provincial council in the city of Odessa in southern Ukraine. Meanwhile, eight-hundred military personnel of an airbase in the autonomous Republic of Crimea have defected to pro-Russian leadership there. The airbase is home to dozens of fighter jets and training aircraft.
