The European Union has called on Russia to pull its military forces back from Ukraine or risk consequences in its relations with the 28-nation bloc.
The EU, in a statement, urged Moscow to do its best to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine. It also called on Moscow to immediately start talks with new officials in Kiev. The statement was issued after emergency talks between EU foreign ministers in Brussels. Russia says it has sent its troops to the strategic Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea after its regional prime minister requested Moscow to help it establish peace and security there.
