Report: Israel Paying militants in Syria for info on al-Qaeda-linked insurgents

    by PressTV

A new report suggests that Israel is paying large sums of money to militants fighting against the Syrian government in exchange for information on al-Qaeda-linked insurgents.

Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National has reported that at least three different militant groups have been in regular contact with Israeli intelligence officials. The report quotes an unnamed militant commander as saying that all groups have received more than one tranche of funding worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from Israel. Tel Aviv has also been quietly giving militants medical aid in an attempt to make contacts with opposition fighters and collect intelligence.
