It’s already known that the older a pregnant woman, the more negative effects on the baby’s health; but guess what? Now scientists have found that a father’s age could also be a key factor!

According to a recent research conducted by American and Swedish researchers, older fathers may face a significantly increased risk for having children with psychiatric problems. The study showed that a child born to a 45-year-old dad was 25 times more likely to have bipolar disorder, 13 times more likely to have ADHD, and 3-and-a-half times more likely to have autism. Meanwhile, suicidal behavior was also twice as likely. The research involved an analysis of 2-point-6 million people’s health records born in Sweden from 1973 until 2001. It is deemed as the largest study to examine the potential links between a father’s age and the child’s mental health.
