Horror films do exceptionally well in theaters when done right and that was the case with James Wan's "The Conjuring" in 2013. The movie about Ed and Lorraine Warren, a husband and wife team of real-life paranormal investigators and the story is based on one of their most well-known cases.
The mystery revolved around a Harrisville, Rhode Island farmhouse that has been the setting for the stuff of nightmares for the Perron family. From hauntings to spiritual possessions, the colonial house was downright freaky. The Warrens spent years looking into the Perron's tales and found numerous instances of unexplainable activity that the family swears is accurately portrayed in the film. Of course skeptics have claimed the whole thing is a hoax, but the public doesn't seem to be too concerned as the movie easily topped $100 million.
