The Australian airline Qantas is to cut 5,000 more jobs – one-sixth of its workforce – after reporting underlying losses of AU$252 million (US$225 million) for the second half of 2013. The company has been facing increasing competition in recent years, and is calling on the Australian government to relax strict rules governing investment in the company.
