Death of flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, 66, an 'irreparable loss' to world of culture

Pioneering flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia has died aged 66, officials have confirmed.

De Lucia, one of the first flamenco guitarists to crossover into other genres such as jazz and classical, died in Mexico, Spanish media have reported.

City officials in Algeciras, Andalusia – De Lucia’s hometown – in southern Spain said he had suffered a heart attack.

Algeciras mayor Jose Ignacio Landaluce was quoted by local media as saying De Lucia’s death was a “irreparable loss” for Andalusia and the world of culture.
