Two people were killed in an explosion and fire at an animal feed plant in Omaha, Nebraska on Monday (January 20). The accident injured at least 10 other people.

About 38 employees were inside the International Nutrition plant at the time of the explosion and subsequent building collapse at around 10:00 a.m. local time. The building is located in an industrial area near near 77th and I Streets.

Plant worker Nate Lewis, 21, told reporters that he was on the first floor when he heard the blast. The building went dark, but Lewis was able to feel his way through the production floor to safety outside by the light of his mobile phone.

Another employee, Jamar White told reporters that he heard a loud crack before seeing the back wall of the building collapsing.

Specialized rescue crews were initially recovered 17 survivors, seven of whom refused treatment on site. Four people sustained critical wounds while six other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All were sent to hospital for treatment.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion and collapse.
