Highway Critics Review

The much talked about Imtiaz Ali film Highway has finally waved its journey for the audience. Starring and unusual pair of Randeep Hooda and Ali Bhatt in leads, while the casting itself stirs the buzz for the likes of it, the film too further receives an obvious high relating to Imtiaz as a brand of love! So coming as a convenient evaluation on Highway, we now have some of the lead critics, who took up to review the movie on an overall basis!

Critics namely: Times Of India, Hindustan Times Moviezadda, Indian Express, and Rediff.com.

Times Of India says, Ratings 3.5/5

Highway is not a sunny, funny road-trip. It is Imtiaz Ali's starkest, darkest work yet. But what stamps this film indelibly is its sheer boldness. At times, Highway feels like an unending Bharat darshan, a long look at suffering souls through several deserts and eucalyptus trees. But some meandering is its only flaw. Watch it for its cathartic creativity. Highway is not an easy ride. But it offers fresh breezes and new sights.

Hindustan Times says,

Imtiaz Ali's film is all soul. The movie takes one direction and focuses on it, rather than moving to sub-plots. True, there's no adrenaline rush, but there's a serene feel to it. Much like his previous films, Imtiaz's female protagonist wants to break out of the existing rules and regulations, to lead life at her own terms (remember Jab We Met's Geet and Rockstar's Heer). Hats off to Imtiaz for doing justice to the essence of the film.

Moviezadda says, Ratings 2.5/5

Highway has fantastic performances by its lead actors along with good concept and decent music attached to it. Still, ends up on a disappointing note due to its bland screenplay and weak story telling. Thus, would sum it up this way- 'Highway' is a daring ride with some pot holes and speed breakers hampering the smooth ride.

Indian Express says, Ratings 2.0/5

Alia Bhatt has walked past her babydoll cosmetic debut in 'Student Of The Year' for a demanding role in Highway and Randeep Hooda's rough, abusive trucker looks the part, but further falls short and forced. Knowing that it comes from a director who knows, or at least has known how to transfuse exuberance in love, and joy in sheer movement, 'Highway' is pretty but stagey.

Rediff.com says, Ratings 3.0/5

Highway isn't merely concerned with cataloguing the virginal, versatile landscapes of Northern India. Often it's the only ray of cheer to offset the grimness concealed within two wounded souls. Highway uses travel like artistry, a narrative form to unfold the adventures of its two leading protagonists learning (and unlearning) a few precious lessons about the capricious course life follows when tackled head-on.
