Russia has blamed what it calls extremists and hardliners for the ongoing unrest in Ukraine. Moscow accuses them of seeking a civil war in the crisis-hit country.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavorv says his country supports talks between the Ukrainian government and the opposition to put an end to the violence and fight the extremists. Meanwhile, an E-U draft text says it supports sanctions on those behind the violence. Britain has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to London over the deadly violence in Kiev. US President Barack Obama has also called for an end to the unrest. He also welcomed the truce announced earlier by the Ukrainian president, urging the government in Kiev to work with the opposition to restore security.
