A senior member of a Lebanese Alawite party has been shot dead in the northern city of Tripoli.
Security officials say masked gunmen opened fire on Abdel-rahman Diab Thursday morning. He was a senior member of the Arab Democratic Party, and supportive of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Diab was driving through Tripoli, which sees frequent deadly clashes between supporters and opponents of the Syrian government. A party official says Diab was in charge of military affairs.
