Actress Ellen Page, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Juno," came out as a lesbian on Friday (February 14) at a Las Vegas conference for gay teens.

The 26-year-old actress is in good company. Over the past two decades, several high-profile celebrities have come out of the closet. Some, like Ellen Degeneres and Melissa Etheridge in the 1990s, came out during a time when it was controversial.

Famously private Jodie Foster came out during a speech after receiving a lifetime achievement award at the 2013 Golden Globes. Singer Elton John came out as bisexual during a 1976 interview with Rolling Stone, and later told the outlet in the 1980s that he was gay.

Neil Patrick Harris, Rosie O'Donnell and news host Anderson Cooper are among the many others stars who have come out.
