At Psicone, an enigmatic technology company, three adventurous game testers, Morgan, Dave, and George are QA testing the company’s latest virtual reality game, Battletoads. Jealous of the attention the trio receive, Chief Programmer Silas Volkmire, strikes a deal with the buxom Dark Queen, who turns out to not just be a villain in the Battletoads game but an actual space conqueror in a parallel universe that can be accessed through the virtual reality technology.
When the game testers sneak into Psicone and put the VR helmets on, they are permanently zapped into the parallel universe as Zitz, Rash, and Pimple, the Battletoads. Before being overwhelmed by the Dark Queen’s forces that include a cybernetic monster and an obese rat, the Toads are rescued by Professor T. Bird, former lover turned adversary of the Dark Queen. In return, they promise to aid him in protecting the galaxy.
Later, while the Toads are on a mission to escort Princess Angelica back to her homeworld, the Dark Queen’s ship captures Pimple and Angelica who were taking an ill-timed joyride. It’s now up to Zitz and Rash to travel to the planet Ragnarok and defeat the the Dark Queen’s army while hanging from ropes, riding pink dragons, and avoiding concrete walls on that damn jet bike level.
