Deadly floods threatening livestock across Bolivia

Motoring over flooded farmlands in Bolivia, rancher Pablo Montenegro is in a race against time.

He's scrambling to save his livestock before floodwaters leave them to die.

(SOUNDBITE)(Spanish) RANCHER OF LOS ALAMOS HACIENDA, PABLO MONTENEGRO, SAYING:

"Every day we are looking for our cattle and taking them to higher places where there is more food and where it is dry. But unfortunately, now, there aren't any dry areas - just water."

Floods have been ravaging northern Bolivia for weeks and are expected to stay at current levels for at least the next 10 days.

Countless heads of cattle and other livestock previously trapped are being guided to higher ground.

Cowboy Pedro Chucaba is also getting desperate.

Some cattle are already dead and others are slowly starving to death.
