Japanese bus driver leaves middle school students trapped in Yokohama shuttle bus

A middle school student found himself trapped in a shuttle bus for nearly half an hour in the Japanese port city of Yokohama on Sunday evening, according to a report by the Asahi Shimbun.

When the bus arrived at its final destination its 55-year-old bus driver failed to properly patrol the vehicle, leaving a middle school student dozing off in the back.

The vehicle next returned to the bus depot, but the child remained unseen.

Twenty-five minutes later, a passing driver finally noticed the child sleeping in the bus.

According to Japan Meteorological Agency, the temperatures at the time reached a chilly 5.3 degrees celsius, but officials noted the child was largely unaffected.

The Yokohama City Bus Company is currently facing a slew of complaints from a number of passengers who found themselves trapped in the company's vehicles. In response, it has promised to more vigilantly train drivers to carry thorough patrols as well as to introduce new measures to this issue from recurring.
