LEBANESE WEB USERS DEFEND JACKIE CHAMOUN
Lebanese Olympic skier Jackie Chamoun who is currently competing in Sochi has been at the centre of lively debate after topless images were leaked online on Monday. The pictures are from behind the scenes footage at a shoot for an Austrian calendar back in 2011, and they have certainly sparked lively reaction in her home country.
Shortly after the images appeared online, thousands of Lebanese web users took to social networks to share their thoughts and opinions, most of them defending the athlete and supporting her right to do what she wants with her body. Netizens have also expressed anger with Lebanon`s Minister of Youth and Sports, Faisal Karami, who has been fiercely critical of Jackie Chamoun, even going as far as to ask for a full investigation into the famous photo shoot.
The Lebanese skier has had strong backing back home, as highlighted by the #StripForJackie campaign, that has seen Twitter users doing just that and holding a message of support for Jackie Chamoun.
Some brand names have joined the online campaigning. One beer company is backing the athlete with this picture shared on Twitter. In a nod to the current controversy, we see a bottle stripped of all its logos.
