Avalanche Buries Village in Italian Alps

On February 6th, footage was captured of a slow moving avalanche in the Italian Alps. From a distance, the descending snow mass appeared to a large waterfall cascading down the mountainside in Passeier Valley.

On February 6th, footage was captured of a slow moving avalanche in the Italian Alps. From a distance, the descending snow mass appeared to be a large waterfall cascading down the mountainside in Passeier Valley.
Somehow the powerful avalanche narrowly missed hitting nearby homes along the initial route. However, as it continued moving, it struck and covered several buildings and knocked down trees.
25 village residents were evacuated from their houses and taken to safety just in time. Luckily no one was injured.
It’s estimated that thousands of tons of snow barreled down the landscape. The snow tumbled for approximately 5 minutes. The aftermath of the avalanche has blocked road access to the village.
Due to extreme weather conditions, the area has recently seen record amounts of snowfall, leaving residents' homes and vehicles buried under several feet of it.
