Designer Tadashi Shoji has shown his autumn collection at NY Fashion Week and says the theme is the “mystery of a Moorish night”.

Textures were rich, including velvet and suede. Tadashi Shoji says he was inspired by his travels: “It was East to West. So from Istanbul to go in Moorish influence, Arabic influence and then Moorish to Morocco to Alhambra Spain, that kind of feeling.”

Embroidery and lace details referenced Persian carpets and the colours were correspondingly rich.

The Red Dress Collection is a charity event that kicks of New York fashion week. It aims to raise awareness about heart disease and models included lots of celebrities.

Bella Thorne, who is best known as an aspiring young dancer on the Disney Channel series ‘Shake It Up’, worked the crowd with style.

Among the non-model volunteers for the catwalk were Olympians Sasha Cohen and Lindsey Vonn, still on crutches due to the knee injury which forced her to withdraw from this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi.
