‘A’ students at Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring, Maryland are being rewarded with a party, complete with a DJ, pizza, and a game room.

The festivities will commence during the final period of the day.

‘B’ and ‘C’ students can come after school is over, but the pizza service will be cut off by then.

Those pulling D’s and lower are not permitted to attend at all.

Since the celebration was announced, many have come forward to express their dissatisfaction with the plan.

One parent, whose daughter has learning disabilities and was not invited, said that an academic status dance just makes some students feel bad.

An associate professor of education at a nearby college sees the potential impact of such exclusive events as being much more serious than hurt feelings.

She said, “You’re creating a caste system that could easily result in bullying and victimization, which is what we’re trying to prevent, especially in middle school.”

Eastern Middle School is said to already have issues among its student body as some of them are magnet school students and highly competitive, while the others attend as it’s their local option.
