Jellyfish at the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas have reportedly been eating peanut butter and salt water slushies.

Aquarists took peanut butter, and mixed it with sea water to the consistency of salad dressing before cooling it for several days and then serving it to the jellyfish.

250 young moon jellies living at the aquarium that usually eat sea monkeys have been switched to peanut butter, which has all the proteins they need to survive.

Besides a slower growth rate and taking on a brownish coloration, the jellies seems to be doing fine.

Aquarium supervisor Barrett Christie is quoted as saying: “We have read quite a number of studies where peanut meal has been substituted as a marine protein in feed. We’re going to see if we can continue to raise them to complete their lifecycle and put down polyps.”

Some of the jellyfish that were fed peanut butter have been moved into the regular exhibit area of the aquarium, (2,7,1) but the real test is to see if the jellyfish can have healthy offspring.
