Recently an elementary school teacher living in Santa Ana was arrested after authorities discovered there were hundreds of ball pythons in his home.

Most of them were deceased. 4 months ago, animal services workers were alerted of complaints pertaining to a ‘dead body stench’ coming from the home of William Fredrick Buchman.

Authorities sought Buchman’s permission to search the house but they were unsuccessful. After obtaining a warrant, animal services officers and police arrived at the residence.

They got past the smell which was referred to as “god awful” and noticed the four front rooms stored snake cages that were stacked from floor to ceiling. In total, between 300 and 400 pythons were found.

Many of them were in various stages of decomposition. The home was also loaded with rats and mice.

Police stated the living conditions, care and feeding of the reptiles was “not up to par”. Buchman was quickly taken into custody.
