Cow Flatulence Causes Fire on German Farm

While it’s widely known that cow flatulence is bad for the environment in the long run, many people can't imagine it posing an immediate and serious danger.

Well one recent report proves it certainly can. A shed situated on a German Dairy farm exploded. There were about 90 cows in the building.

Over time, the methane gas from the bovines had accumulated. The gas emitted from the cows coupled with a static electric charge caused the flames to break out.In the end, the fire caused damage to the roof of the shed.

No deaths were reported but one of the cow’s encountered burns and required treatment. Responding emergency crews monitored gas readings in the shed to ensure no further blasts would occur. Fortunately everything checked out.

Although the gas from cows doesn’t typically cause explosions, it is a lurking problem. Bovines can release anywhere from 100 up to 500 liters of methane in just one day, simply from the basic acts of belching and flatulence.
