Hardpoint is a new Game Mode introduced in Call of Duty Black ops 2. It is fairly similar to Drop Zone from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, but has a few different tweaks. It is one of my favorite game types so far, not only because I like using shotguns and they are very effective in Hardpoint. This guide explains the mechanics behind Hardpoint.
Basically the way to win Hardpoint is to capture the designated areas and hold them for as long as possible. When you hold the Hardpoint your team earns score and the team with the highest score at the end of 10 minutes wins the game. Since the Hardpoints are the high traffic areas and are fairly small shotguns and sub machine guns are the best weapons to use since they shine at close quarter combat.
It is easier to defend an area than it is to take it away from the enemy. So I suggest that you get to the Hardpoint as soon as it goes up and get ready for the enemies to come as you are going to have a much easier time that way than if you have to slowly root out trenched in enemies. When you are defending having a UAV is very powerful as it lets the you know where the enemies are coming from and prepare to take them out.
When you do have to take away a Hardpoint from the enemy never try the same path twice. If there are a few teammates that have gone in one way and are now dead it is best if you find an alternative route in as the enemies are expecting more to come from the direction your teammates have just gone. If you flank you can often surprise the enemies and easily wipe out any bad guys in a Hardpoint.
The best Killstreaks to use are the UAV as it lets you know where defenders are located in a Hardpoint which lets you take them out easier. However, often it is hard to overcome enemies that are sitting in a corner with a shotgun at close range waiting for you to walk into their sights. The Hunter Killer Drone can be thrown into the Hardpoint and you can take out 2 or 3 enemies that way and then overrun the Hardpoint. Counter UAV takes the away advantage the UAV grants the enemies.
