Space researchers at the University of Bern are celebrating after Rosetta, Europe’s comet-chasing spacecraft, awoke on schedule from 31 months in hibernation. Rosetta was in sleep mode to conserve energy on its way to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Scientists from the Center for Space and Habitability in Bern developed the measuring instruments on board the spacecraft, which will soon be used to examine the chemical gases produced by the comet.
