More than 20 dead in Shi'ite pilgrim bus bomb in Pakistan
  • 10 years ago
At least 22 people have been killed by a bomb that tore through a bus carrying Shi’ite pilgrims in western Pakistan. Another 20 were injured and several others unaccounted for.

Police said the bus was taking people, including women and children, from neighbouring Iran back to their home city of Quetta. The attack happened near Mastung southwest of the provincial capital.

An official said the bomb blew up one of two buses travelling under a government security escort.

A bomb squad official was quoted as saying it was a suicide attack.

Sunni extremists close to al Qaeda have repeatedly attacked the minority Shi’ite population in Pakistan, including passenger buses carrying pilgrims to sacred places in Iran.
