In a controversial study, Dr. Dick Swaab from the University of Amsterdam says he has linked several behaviors during pregnancy with giving birth to homosexual offspring.

The neurobiologist claims in his book ‘We Are Our Brains’ that even the smallest chemical change in the womb can alter the brain development of the fetus.

Smoking is among the habits of the mother-to-be that can have an impact, and it’s that their girls are more likely to be gay when they grow up.

Swaab also associated the use of synthetic hormones with a female child’s sexual preference of women later in life.

Boys, on the other hand, are more likely to be oriented to same-sex partners if they are one of many males born to the same woman.

According to the doctor, it has to do with how carrying males impacts the mother’s immune system over time.

Homosexuality in both men and women can be the result of a stressful pregnancy, as it spurs increased production of cortisol.

The cortisol, he says, affects the sex hormones of both genders.

He does acknowledge that genetics do remain the primary factor, but says the mother’s lifestyle choices play a part.
