Deadly suicide bomb attack at crowded market in Rawalpindi in Pakistan

Ten people have been killed and more than a dozen wounded in Pakistan after a suicide bomber attacked a crowded market.

It happened near the Pakistani army headquarters in Rawalpindi, close to the capital Islamabad.

Police say some security personnel are believed to be among the dead.

The market is a ten minute walk from the army headquarters, in one of the most secure areas of the city. It was cordoned off by the military immediately after the blast.

A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of Islamist insurgents.

The blast comes a day after a Taliban bombing inside an army compound in the northwest of the country killed at least 20 soldiers.
