Thailand: Many hurt in blast at anti-government protest camp

There has been fresh violence in Thailand with at least 28 people reported injured in an explosion at an anti-government protest camp on Sunday.

Medical sources say seven were seriously hurt in the blast at Bangkok’s Victory Monument.

Thousands of anti-government demonstrators marched on the streets of Bangkok again today, although overall numbers taking part in Thailand’s long-running protest movement have been tailing off.

There is also little sign that the movement, led by Suthep Thaugsuban, is spreading beyond the capital and into Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s rural, political power base.

Resisting demands to resign, she has called an election on Feb. 2. It is being boycotted by the main opposition party.

Hundreds of her opponents gathered in a park in Bangkok on
Saturday to pay tribute to a protester who was killed in a grenade explosion during a demonstration a day earlier.

It is not clear who is behind the attacks.

Protesters claims Yingluck is a puppet for her self-exiled brother, ex-premier Thaksin, who was ousted by the army in 2006. They accuse both of corruption.
