S Sudan students hope to make the grade

4 years ago13 views

Many schools in South Sudan have closed because of the conflict in the country, but students are still taking their exams.

Some students are sitting their tests in the former function room for United Nations peacekeeping troops, after living in the UN refugee camp with poor sanitation, little food and no electricity for more than a month.

Final exams at primary schools were cancelled when fighting began in December. Many of the students are at the age where they should be going to college or university, but years of war have delayed their educations.

Peace talks are being held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal reports from Juba.
