Unfortunately not all parents adhere to the basic rules of raising a child. A mother in Florida is now facing charges after she allegedly left her kids in the car alone while she went off to hunt hogs.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, it was around 38 degrees outside when Kayla Marie Shavers left the children, aged 9 years and 8 months, unattended in the cold vehicle.
Eventually the 9 year old boy contacted police, asking for a squad car to sit in because in his own words “it would be warmer”. Deputies soon arrived at the scene. The car was not running.
The older child was shivering and had no coat inside the vehicle. The cops waited for roughly 40 minutes for Shavers to return to the car.
She told police she left the keys behind so her son could start the vehicle if he got cold. She also claimed to have stayed close enough by that if the children needed her, she would be able to respond.)
Shavers excused her actions, saying she was forced to hunt hogs because they were “tearing up property”. Police arrested and charged her with child neglect. The kids are being cared for by family members.
