Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic.

People here are waiting for a new transitional government to restore peace.

Their interim president, Michel Djotodia, resigned on Friday, along with his prime minister.

They were under intense pressure to quit -- for failing to stop inter-religious violence between Muslim and Christian militias.

(SOUNDBITE) (French) ENGINEER, HERVE SANDE, SAYING:

"We are satisfied. We got what we wanted, and we are really happy about his departure. As for what's coming next, we wait for a new president, a new government to be put in place, for peace to return."

On Saturday, that new government started to take shape.

It'll be run by this man - Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet

He's the head of the country's transitional assembly.

He'll be in charge until a new leader can guide the nation to elections.
