Arlene Saiz of Albuquerque, New Mexico said she was shocked to learn that her dog had both marijuana and cocaine in its system.

Saiz had taken the pet, named Maddie, to the vet after noticing that she was having trouble walking.

Shortly after arriving at the facility, the dog began to suffer seizures and was found to have an infection.

Further, officials say the dog had neither been licensed nor spayed.

Saiz says that she didn’t harm the dog and has volunteered to take a drug test to prove it.

Charges haven’t been pressed against her due to a lack of evidence, but it’s unlikely she’ll ever get Maddie back.

Prior to the dog being treated, the woman signed a paper relinquishing her rights of ownership.

She was told that as she couldn’t afford the veterinary care it was the only way the dog could be saved.

Now Maddie, who has made a full recovery, will be sent along to either a rescue or adoption program.

Due to the waiver she signed, Saiz is prohibited from adopting pets for a year.
