You never know when a DIY project can result in a medical emergency.

A 55 year old Chinese man, was doing some home decorating and ended up with a roughly 3-inch nail lodged in his skull.

After that, two extraordinary things happened. One is that he didn’t notice it at the time, and the other is he seems to have evaded life-threatening damage.

On December 29th the man was doing some work around his Jiangsu Province, China home and had occasion to use a cutting machine.

Unfortunately, there was a steel nail stuck in the machine, and when powered up, the tool flung it into his eye socket, making a small hole.

He didn’t notice it at the time, but days later he felt ill and went to the hospital.

After undergoing a CT scan, the man learned that he had a nail caught in a delicate part of his cranium.

Surgeons were hesitant to simply pull out the metal piece, as it was dangerously near significant vessels and nerves.

Instead, they opted for surgical extraction.

Following the procedure, the man was reported to be in stable condition. Remarkably, his vision has not been compromised.
