A man in San Diego, Kevin DeSonia, got a shock when what should have been an awesome Apple product was replaced with something far less exciting.
He originally opened up an iPod Classic that was given to him as a Christmas present.

Initially thrilled, it didn’t take long for the excitement to die down. The music device was defective. He brought it his local Target store and exchanged it for another one.

Instead of being greeted by a shiny, scratch free gadget when he opened up the box, DeSonia was left staring at several rectangular erasers in the spot where the iPod should have been sitting.

DeSonia called store workers right away. Fortunately they sympathized with him and agreed to take back the iPod without problems.

Another man in California was affected by the eraser scam as well. Jim Nevarde purchased an iPod classic as a Christmas gift for his wife from the Mira Mesa Target.

When she opened it up, she found erasers and index cards. Nevarde exchanged it at a different Target. This time the box was opened in front of store clerks.

Amazingly, that one was also filled with erasers. The company claims to be investigating.
