Artist Creates Chandelier With Taxidermied Birds

A Chilean artist combines two very different things into one bold creation. Using taxidermied birds, Sebastian Errazuriz intricately perches dead creatures on a chandelier, to appear as though the birds are hanging out and enjoying the view from up high on the crystal fixture.

A quick glance and it appears as though the vibrant and differently colored birds are still alive. Errazuriz describes his general ideology when it comes to his works stating “I don’t know where the line is between art and design. It’s important to me that a project consists of just a little twist, because I ultimately want people to see the obvious, the everyday differently.”
That mentality shines through in his artistic bird chandelier. There are a total of 50 taxidermied birds, which serve as ornamentation on the décor piece.
His inspiration for it stretches back to his childhood days when birds would fly through open windows in his grandmother’s house and flock to a similar light in the home. He also remembers watching them take to their their escape routes when trying to leave the house. Sadly, some of their exit attempts were foiled by closed windows and resulted in a number of deaths. His exhibit is a way of memorializing those fallen creatures.
