Native to Australia, Koalas are a common sight in many parts of the country.

Residents in the village of Palmwoods are left scratching their heads after a bizarre network of installations incorporating koalas was recently put up on the side of a busy road. Wooden crosses were stuck into the ground forming a lineup of sorts on the side of the street.

Attached to each cross was a stuffed koala smeared with a red substance to look as though the toys were bloodied.

According to a local news outlet, the cross and koalas were removed by town workers shortly after their appearance. At first it was suspected local animal advocacy groups were responsible for the installation, but all have denied knowing anything about it.

Sunshine Coast Koala Rescue spokesperson, Ray Chambers believes it was the act of an individual upset about a proposed forestry project that would threaten the natural habitat of many koalas.

Basically, it was done as a sort of makeshift protest to bring awareness and put a stop to the loss of acreage that serves as a home to koalas.
