Drinking water is becoming scarce in India. A new government survey, highlighting the problem, indicates that rural women are the worst affected. It says half of these women have to walk up to 5 km every day in order to acess drinking water. The survey - which is a study of 95,000 households across the country - shows the average time spent for fetching water is more than 30 minutes. In cities half the time is wasted in long queues. In comparison to 2008 the situation worsened in 2012. Corruption, red tape, lack of planning and coordination have been blamed for the water scarcity in India.
