In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a cool chord melody exercise in the style of Joe Pass.
Ok, so... What is chord melody? Chord melody is simple a melody played with chords. There are different approaches since we can play one chord for each note of the melody, or more notes per chord. Also we can play the melody with different note range, like using the lower, middle or highest note of the chord.
Joe Pass was born in 1929 and passes away in 1994. He was an Italian-American jazz guitarist often considered as one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all times.
He did the best and extensive use of harmonic and melodic counterpoint during improvisation, using chord-melody style of playing opening up new possibilities for jazz guitar and guitarists.
Try this very slow at first and then start to increase the speed gradually. Also don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style.
That is all for today... Anyway, keep enjoying and learning from Jon MacLennan and all the staff at Guitarcontrol.com! Where? In our free lessons at www.youtube.com/guitarcontrol
