In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a cool pentatonic lick in the style of SRV. The good thing about this kind of licks is that you can use them in any musical context, such as jazz, blues, pop, even country, etc.
Ok, so... What is a lick? A lick is combination of notes which frequently are based out of scales or chords and used often. It´s really important to know some licks when we have to improvise, sometimes they could help our lives (musically speaking ofcourse)...
As the title says, this line or lick is in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, so if you have never heard about him I really recommend you to check out. SRV was an American guitarist and one of the best bluesmen of all times.
Ok, try this lick very slow at first and then start to increase the speed gradually.
And don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style.
That is all for today... Anyway I suggest that you keep enjoying and learning from Jon MacLennan and all the staff at Guitarcontrol.com! Where? In our free lessons at
