The chief prosecutor at the International Criminal Court has asked for the trial of Kenya's president to be delayed indefinitely.

Uhuru Kenyatta is accused of fueling ethnic violence that killed 1,200 people after the 2007 Kenyan election.

He was due to stand trial in February.

The adjourning of his trial will be seen as a major blow to the ICC, which has been struggling with several other cases.

Al Jazeera's Rawya Rageh reports from Nairobi.
