Canada lifts all restrictions on prostitution
  • 10 years ago
Prostitution will soon be completely legal in Canada.

Until now, street walking, running a brothel and living off the proceeds of prostitution were against the law.

Now anything goes as Canada’s Supreme Court has removed all the restrictions on the grounds they violate prostitutes’ safety.

The move goes in the opposite direction to recent changes to the law in some European countries, the most recent being in supposedly libertine France.

While there is limited tolerance of prostitution, the French have sought to restrict demand by criminalising the act of buying sex, targeting clients.

The changes in Canada will come into force in December 2014.
