Thieves will often stoop to desperate levels to get and keep what they want. In a recent case, a jailhouse X-ray revealed two stolen necklaces which had been taken out of a home in Safety Harbor, Florida.

The jewelry pieces were in the stomach of an inmate at Pinellas County Jail. 21-year-old Joseph Ramos was arrested on December 11th after he was busted driving a stolen car that was related to the burglary in Safety Harbor.

Ramos was promptly booked and when he walked through a full body scanner at the prison, which works similar to a standard x-ray, the machine picked up a mass in his stomach.

After deputies analyzed the reading, they realized the photo was showing the two stolen necklaces. Their chains had coiled together to form a ball of sorts. Once questioned, Ramos admitted that he had indeed swallowed the jewelry.

The local sheriff stated “It goes to show the length people will go to hide the evidence.”

Ramos was transported to the hospital where the necklaces were surgically removed. He has now been charged with burglary and tampering with physical evidence.
