Siberian tiger is one of the world's rarest mammals, living mainly in eastern Russia, northeastern China and the northern parts of the Korean Peninsula. There are now fewer than 500 Siberian tigers left in the wild, with less than 20 in China. And with little of their natural habitat under preservation, the wild Siberian tigers are often found injured or dead from poaching.
A forest conservation project started by the Chinese government in 2000 has tried to improve their habitat, and their numbers have grown, which is a comfort. However, increasing attacks by tigers on livestock brings new challenges.
