Tehran is hosting the 18th meeting of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the Economic Cooperation Organization, known as ECOSAI. Founded in 1994, the ECOSAI is a regional forum of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the South and Central Asian regions.
The ECOSAI Governing Board oversees the fulfillment of the Charter of ECOSAI, adopts the draft budget and submits the accounts to the forum for approval; and fulfills any other duties entrusted to it by the forum.
One of the goals of the ECOSAI is to help eradicate poverty across member states through proper auditing of state budget and monitoring financial activities. Since its formation a wide range of issues have been discussed at the governing board but this year upon a request by member states the impact of terrorism on regional economy will also be one of the main issues to be the studied during the four-day event.
The Economic Cooperation Organization groups Republic of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Founded by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan, the regional group seeks to establish a single market for goods and services, much like the European Union.
