Bikes have already proven to be good for the environment, but designers in Bangkok plan to make them even better by giving them air-purifying powers.

Lightfog Creative & Design Company has released its plans for a bike that has a filter built onto the handlebars and also creates oxygen via a photosynthesis system.

The system is embedded in the bike’s aluminum frame and works by triggering a reaction between water and electricity. The power for the process comes from a lithium-ion battery.

Battery function is fueled by solar power, so even when the bike is stationary it can continue to clean the air around it.

It’s unclear how much oxygen each bike will create or how much air it will purify.

At this stage in the process, the bike only exists in the minds of its inventors and their renderings and mock-ups.

The developers admit that a lot of the technical aspects still need figuring out before they can move into the prototype-building phase.

Lightfog’s design has already garnered them an award from Red Dot, an organization that holds an annual competition for both finished products and burgeoning concepts.
