Emotional South Africans bid farewell to Mandela

Thousands lined the streets to bid farewell to the former South African President Nelson Mandela.

The hearse carrying his body made its way through Pretoria to the Union Buildings for the second day of lying in state.

Emotions ran high as people said goodbye to the anti-apartheid hero.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) SOUTH AFRICAN KEFIL MALATSI SAYING:

"I feel excited, I'm feeling many emotions. I feel excited, happy, I feel sad, and that's it."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) SOUTH AFRICAN FORTUNATE MALUNTANE SAYING:

"The feeling was overwhelming, I was shivering, I was literally shaking, and I was taking a video of them and it was so overwhelming. Seeing him personally, feeling his presence and that short distance, I was like, oh my gosh, this is the man who made me who I am this day, I was so happy, I was happy, I was sad at the same time, I felt like I could cry, tears wouldn't get out, but it was overwhelming."

The death of the Nobel peace laureate triggered
