The inspiration struck him when he was watching a Lifetime documentary about journalist Jessica Savitch.
Among those interviewed in the program was Crim as he and Savitch once co-anchored a news program.
Ferrell said he was deeply entertained by the man for a couple of reasons.
One was because of the man’s brash honesty in admitting that he was a jerk to Savitch because back in the day he was, “a real chauvinist pig.”
Another was that he used his news-delivery voice when talking about it.
Crim wasn’t all offended when he learned he was the model for Ron Burgundy and was positive about the film in general.
He said, "You know comedy and satire and parody is nothing but taking a grain of truth and stretching it out to an absolutely ridiculous conclusion. And I think that's what they have done very skillfully...”
To prove he wasn’t upset, Crim sent Farrell an autographed picture, and in return, Farrell invited him to the Anchorman 2 premier, which the retired anchor plans to attend.
