Thai PM appeals to protesters

4 years ago137 views

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was nearly in tears on Tuesday (December 10) as she pleaded to protesters to clear the streets and support a snap election.

"I'm not senseless. I've always listened to protesters' demands. When they talk about my whole family (to be ousted), I think we (Shinawatra family) are also Thai people. They don't want us to stay in Thailand, do they? Are we (protesters and Yingluck) going to continue living like this? I have backed down to the point where I don't know how to back down any further. I'm asking for justice for myself, thank you."

The weeks-long protests have sometimes turned violent. And on Monday (December 9), protesters rejected Yingluck's call for a general election.

The continue to demand an unelected "people's council".

Such proposal has prompted concern that the democratic process may be abandoned in Thailand.
