Archbishop Desmond Tutu prays for Mandela's family

Former Archbishop of Cape Town Desmond Tutu on Friday (December 6) paid tribute to former South African President Nelson Mandela who passed away Thursday night (December 5) at his Houghton home.

The Nobel Peace laureate prayed for the Mandela family and thanked them for sharing the anti-apartheid icon with South Africa and the world.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) ARCHBISHOP DESMOND TUTU, SAYING:

"God thank you for the gift of Madiba, thank you for what he has enabled us to know we can become, help us to become that kind of nation."

South African President Jacob Zuma announced late Thursday that the former president had passed away peacefully at his Johannesburg home in the company of his family after a long illness.
